£400,000 went into this?

The logo that will be used for the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London, coming up in 2012

Photo from flickr, accessed through Creative Commons

Created by a branding firm at the price of £400,000 (roughly $843,000 Canadian at the time of publishing)

Looks like a kid drew it. He will be one insanely and undersivingly weathly child if that's the case. This logo should be on some household refrigerator and not plastered throughout Great Britain. Almost a million dollars of public money went to make a picture, when the money could have been better used to prepare the city to host the games. I've never been to London, and as a matter of fact, I would like to go there sometime, but they have a lot of work to do the clean up and maintain the municipality in order to host the biggest multi-sport festival in the world.

I don't need to tell you that large corporations, organizations, and even most cities (mine included), pay large amounts of money to properly brand themselves. But I can tell you, without a doubt, they did not get their money's worth.

Hey did you hear the latest news on the logo??

"The London 2012 Olympic Committee was forced to pull a video featuring the Olympic logo over concerns that it could trigger epileptic seizures. The video clip showed a diver plunging into a pool, producing "multicolor ripple effects" on the logo image, according to a London 2012 spokeswoman."

They had to pull the animation off their website and it is not to be shown on TV at all at the moment.

Critics are also describing the logo as 'hideous'... not 'powerful and modern' like the organizers see it.
I guess they are getting the publicity for the Olympic Games, too bad their efforts are being received negatively.

And I just found out what the logo expresses... hmm took me a while but I guess it makes some sense now :)

Yeah, I've been hearing that just about everybody but the people that made it hates it. What really upsets me is it took so much public money to make something that could have been thrown together in 20 minutes, and it doesn't really have anything to do with London or Great Britain at all (despite the word "london" on what looks like the first 2). I forget what it cost to attach "Where Life Makes Sense" onto Swift Current, but that was a good use of our money.

They are now changing the sign for welcoming people to Edmonton from the east and west (where you come in on the Yellowhead). It is either going to be a big Lopsided Pyramid (that lights up and sparkles in the evening) or a Red Wave.
Edmonton Entrance Design Finalists
It is estimated to cost about $600,000 - $700,000 and many people are not too excited about that. There was a display of this on the news the one night, they were showing people the final two designs and asking which they would like to see at the entrances. Not only could you tell that people didn't really like either of them, but many people just stated 'what's wrong with what we got??'
Honestly I think about 99% of the population of Edmonton would rather have the roads fixed. Especially when there are headlines in the newspapers that read "Family SUV sent flying just as road caves in."
Edmonton Sinkhole

And Albertans complained about Saskatchewan Roads... Now they are all moving to SK! :)

I think the "City of Champions" wooden signs will suffice until they fill in that big gaping hole.
